Alejandro Orduz is working as a research and teaching associate at the Chair for Designing Landscapes in the Anthropocene since May 2023. He studied Architecture (B.A.) at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and Urban Design (M.Sc.) at TU Berlin.
In his Ph.D., he explores the spatial agency of landscapes ‘en route’ of rare-earth extraction related to the European Green Energy Transition. His work focuses empirically on Andean-European lithium supply chains connecting extraction peripheries in the borderlands of Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile, and the European battery manufacturing industry. Drawing from the intersection of so-called ‘transition discourses’ from the global South (Decolonization, Post-developmentalism, (post-)extractivism) and the global North (Post-humanism, Planetary and extended Urbanization), his work lays out a relational debate constellation for unravelling the disruptive cross-hemispheric landscape transformations unleashed by neo-colonial practices of ‘green’ extractivism. The aim of his research is to set up the stage for the re-composition of the concerned territories and communities ‘en route’ towards pluriversal futures.
Alejandro has worked in architecture studios, led transdisciplinary design-build projects in informal urban and rural communities in Colombia, and served as a consultant for international cooperation and disaster relief programs focused on construction projects in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, working across multiple scales, contexts and disciplines.
