RIO EXKURSION: Collaborative landscapes

The Collaborative Landscapes excursion explores collaborative practices of space and knowledge production. Students of the Master’s programme Landscape Architecture will learn and implement a methodology for planning and designing systemic scenarios that lead to 1:1 interventions in space and integrated strategies for the future development of a self-organised community in Rio de Janeiro. This methodology, termed Dual Design Strategy, is intended to provide students with tools to approach the multiple trajectories and processes of human and non-human actors in complex planning and design endeavors. In addition, students will have the opportunity to experiment with transdisciplinary methods and develop their skills to work together towards transformation.

The excursion is linked to the international DAAD funded Alumni workshop COLLOC 2022 – Collaborative Production of Transformation Knowledge in Self-Organised Occupations and includes a preparation phase (starting 31 Oct and 04-06 Nov lectures and activities online), a field trip including workshop activities to Rio de Janeiro (11-20 Nov) and a subsequent follow-up phase. Credits: It is possible to take the excursion as an elective course. Students will receive 3 ECTS for designing systemic scenarios during the excursion. Alternatively, it is possible to combine the excursion  with a seminar (6 ECTS) in the Master Urban Design. The course is offered by Dr. Juliana Canedo, FG Habitat Unit: Seminar and Excursion Counter-Hegemonic Spatial Practices: learning from experiences in the Global South. Funding: The excursion is funded by PROMOS / DAAD and will also be part of the DAAD-funded alumni workshop COLLOC 2022. The max. amount of funding is 450 EUR per person. Additional travel and accommodation costs must be paid by the participants themselves.

Die Exkursion Collaborative Landscapes erkundet kollaborative Praktiken der Raum- und Wissensproduktion. Studierende des Masterstudiengangs Landschaftsarchitektur erlernen und implementieren eine Methodik zur Planung und Gestaltung systemischer Szenarien, die zu 1:1-Interventionen im Raum und integrierten Strategien für die zukünftige Entwicklung einer selbstorganisierten Gemeinschaft in Rio de Janeiro führen. Diese Methodik, bezeichnet als Dual Design Strategy, soll den Studierenden Werkzeuge an die Hand geben, mit denen sie sich den vielfältigen Prozessen menschlicher und nicht-menschlicher Akteure in komplexen Planungs- und Designvorhaben nähern können. Darüber hinaus werden die Studierenden die Möglichkeit haben, mit transdisziplinären Methoden zu experimentieren und ihre Fähigkeiten zu entwickeln, um gemeinsam in Transformation zu stimulieren.

Die Exkursion steht im Zusammenhang mit dem DAAD geförderten internationalen Alumni-Workshop COLLOC 2022 – Collaborative Production of Transformation Knowledge in Self-Organized Occupations – und umfasst eine Vorbereitungsphase (ab 31. Okt. und inklusive 04-06 Nov COLLOC lectures and activities online), eine Exkursion mit Workshopaktivitäten nach Rio de Janeiro (11.-20.Nov) und eine anschließende Nachbereitungsphase. Credits: Es ist möglich, die Exkursion im Master Landschaftsarchitektur als Freie Wahl ‚Exkursion Feldforschung‘ (Modul 61147) mit 3 ECTS zu belegen oder optional als Freie Wahl Modul im Master Urban Design (60468) mit 6 ECTS ‚Sondergebiete der internationalen Urbanistik. Die Lehrveranstaltung wird Dr. Juliana Canedo, FG Habitat Unit angeboten: Seminar and Excursion Counter-Hegemonic Spatial Practices: learning from experiences in the Global South. Mehr Information dazu sind demnächst online verfügbar.

Förderung: Eine Förderung der Exkursion durch PROMOS / DAAD liegt vor. Die Exkursion wird darüberhinaus auch Bestandteil des DAAD geförderten Alumniworkshops COLLOC 2022 sein. Die Fördersumme beträgt insgesamt 450 EUR/Person. Zusätzliche Reise- und Aufenthaltskosten müssen selbst gezahlt werden.
